She Found Her Smile
Sitting there beside another woman in a support group talking about teens, I listened as she spoke with a wonderful accent from her native country, Venezuela, what was that she was saying? It was hard to concentrate on her words, as her broken English was passionately trying to convey her feelings. "I just can't stop smiling," she said. "I just can't stop smiling." What had made this single Mom so happy? Her child had found a way to be happy, to stop her smoking, her drugging, her alcohol, all of those addictions that young teens find to drown their pain, their sorrow at the bad that had come into their young lives, early on. Jesus Christ had been her answer, Teen Challenge had been the vehicle through which this message had been taught. Do you remember the book written by David Wilkerson, "The Sword and the Switchblade"? It was upon this kind of ministry to those teens hurting and in their own private hell that David Wilkerson offered hope and heaven. Heaven through believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He is the way, the truth and the life. That He died and rose again that you and I and all those hurting teens might live, now and forever. This is why this young, single mother thriving and striving to live in America with a child's life gone haywire, was able to smile again. Because of Jesus, because of Jesus Christ and those willing to serve Him AND her daughter, she found her smile . . . .
